Seven years of hospitality, community, and culture : Kathmandu Marriott Hotel marks a landmark anniversary

Kathmandu, Nepal - 29th April, 2026 - Kathmandu Marriott Hotel celebrated its seventh anniversary on April 28, 2026, marking seven years since it first opened its doors as one of Nepal's premier luxury hospitality destinations. What began as a strong belief that Nepal deserved a place on the global hospitality map grew into a story of people, partnerships, and purpose.Since its inception, Kathmandu Marriott Hotel has not merely established its operations in Nepal; it has firmly put down its roots. Drawing its very soul from the city it calls home, the hotel has thoughtfully woven Kathmandu’s warmth, rich culture, and enduring spirit into the very fabric of everything it does.

As owner Gaurav Agarwal reflected on the founding vision: “Seven years ago, this was more than a business decision, it was a belief. A belief that Nepal, with its warm people, rich culture and majestic landscapes, deserves to stand among the best in the global hospitality map. We weren't just constructing a building. We were building trust. We were building a standard. We were building a promise.”Likewise, the General Manager Shankush Mahajan said, “Seven years in, luxury to us carries responsibility. From responsible sourcing to energy efficiency, we are proud to be a LEED Gold Certified Hotel. To everyone who has made this place what it is - thank you.”

The anniversary celebration brought together honoured guests, clients, travel agents, and friends and family of the hotel. Among those present was the guest of honour, Mingma David Sherpa, one of Nepal's most celebrated mountaineers, Guinness World Record holder, and the first Nepali to receive the Piolet d'Or Asia, widely regarded as the Oscar of mountaineering. His presence at the event was a fitting reflection of the evening's spirit: a

celebration of Nepali excellence, ambition, and pride.

The evening reflected Kathmandu Marriott Hotel's belief that luxury carries responsibility. Guests were given a potted plant as a return gift, a small but meaningful symbol of the hotel's commitment to sustainability. The ballroom featured works by Mr. Krishna Lama, a three-time National Award recipient, including a painting fresh from the Beijing International Art Biennale, with a percentage of sales going to Prisoners Assistance Nepal. The presence of Subani Ale Magar, Chairperson of Prisoners Assistance Nepal, added further weight to the evening that was as much about purpose as it was about celebration.

Kathmandu Marriott Hotel has undertaken several landmark initiatives with the vision of positioning Nepal on the global stage. In 2019, the hotel joined Marriott International’s global campaign, showing its aim to represent Nepal on the world stage. By 2023, Kathmandu Marriott Hotel had become an important part of Nepal’s tourism and hospitality network, building partnerships and showing that hospitality is about both the destination and the guest. Seven years in, Kathmandu Marriott Hotel stands as one of Nepal's most recognised luxury hospitality addresses, its brand made local through consistent service, community engagement, and cultural investment.
