Kathmandu, August 29: Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank have announced a comprehensive, multi-phase relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction program for communities affected by the devastating floods in Rasuwa and surrounding areas.The joint initiative, estimated to cost approximately Rs 150 million, will focus on immediate humanitarian assistance, temporary shelter, permanent reconstruction, healthcare and long-term disaster resilience.

The organizations said their immediate priority is to support families affected by the floods that struck Rasuwa on Bhadra 10, expressing condolences to those who lost their lives and solidarity with affected communities.

Immediate relief and health support
Under the first phase, Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank will distribute food, drinking water, ready-to-eat meals, biscuits, clothing, tarpaulins, personal hygiene products and other essential supplies to affected families.Relief supplies began reaching affected areas from Bhadra 11, with employees of both organizations mobilized locally to support the response.

The organizations will also establish two relief camps in Nuwakot and Rasuwa in coordination with the local administration. The camps will provide daily meals, safe spaces for children, clean drinking water and sanitation facilities.In partnership with Dhulikhel Hospital, health camps will also be operated in affected areas to provide primary healthcare and support disease prevention.

500 temporary shelters planned
As part of the second phase, Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank will work with the government and local governments to construct 500 temporary housing units for families whose homes have been completely destroyed or rendered uninhabitable by the floods.

The temporary shelters will provide affected families with safe, organized and dignified accommodation until permanent reconstruction is completed. The initiative will use transitional housing technology previously deployed by the Chaudhary Foundation during earthquake relief efforts in Nepal.

Focus on permanent reconstruction and public health
Beyond emergency relief and temporary housing, the program will support the construction of permanent shelters and essential community infrastructure in affected areas.

As a long-term health initiative, Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank will collaborate with Dhulikhel Hospital to establish a Center for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control. The center is expected to strengthen disease surveillance, preventive healthcare, public awareness and institutional capacity to respond to infectious diseases and outbreaks following floods and other disasters.

Nirvana Chaudhary, Chairman of Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank, said the partnership would go beyond emergency assistance and remain focused on the complete recovery journey of affected communities.

“Our immediate priority is to protect lives and ensure food, shelter, healthcare, and dignity for affected families. However, our responsibility should not be limited to emergency relief.”

He said the partnership would support communities from rescue and relief through temporary shelter and permanent rehabilitation to stronger public health preparedness.Officials from Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank will coordinate closely with the Government of Nepal, local administrations, security agencies, health workers, community organizations and volunteers to ensure that assistance reaches the most affected and vulnerable families in a transparent, systematic and effective manner.

The organizations said the initiative reflects their continued commitment to standing with Nepali communities during national crises and helping affected populations build a safer, healthier and more disaster-resilient future.They also expressed appreciation to the Government of Nepal for its prompt rescue and relief efforts, describing its coordination, preparedness and response during the crisis as commendable.
